A Swiss Steak is actually a way of cooking the beef round steak so to make the usually tough cut beef steak tender and soft to eat.

How To - Swiss Steak Cooking Methods

You don't need to marinade a swiss steak like you do to other steaks. Also you don't grill the swiss steak due to the nature of the tough cut swiss steak. So the swiiss steak cooking methods are limited to slow cook or semi slow cook only.

Swiss Steak Cooking Methods - Crockpot

  • Cut the swiss steak into 1/2 inch slices, coat with salt paper and flour

  • Place the sliced round swiss steak into a crockpot

  • Open the can tomato, pour into the crockpot

  • Add into green pepper, onion, steak sauce

  • Add molasses, mushroom, diced patato and soy sauce

  • Stir everything well in the crokpot

  • Cover with a lid

  • Slow cook for 8 hours

  • Serve with white rice

  • You may add a little bit green vegetables as well


Swiss Steak Cooking Methods - Skillet

  • Dust the steak with flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, rub all ingredients on both sides of the steak

  • Heat the heavy skillet to medium heat

  • Add vegetable oil (or olive, canola) into the skillet, Place the swiss steak in

  • Take the swiss steak out of the skillet when the beef is brown on both sides, rest for 2 minutes

  • Put garlic, tomato (or tomato sauce), onion, bell pepper and water into the skillet, cook for 3 minutes

  • Place the swiss steak back into the skillet

  • Cover with a high lids so to Cook on low heat for 80 miutes

  • Flip the steak, add the vegetables and cook the steak for another 10 minutes until the beef is tender

  • Place them into a plate and serve with vegetables

  • Slice the swiss round steak into 1/2 inch thick strips

  • Mix flour with salt, pound the mixture on both sides of the swiss steak evenly

  • Vegetable oil into the pre heated heavy pan, heat to medium hot

  • Place the swiss steak strips into the skillet, cook until brown

  • Add vegetable oil, onion, garlic powder, celery into the pan and Saute until tender-crisp

  • Add tomato, mushroom, soy sauce

  • Stir everything well in the pan and cook until boil

  • Add the swiss steak into the pan

  • Stir well, cover lid and cook for 45 minutes

  • Check and add a little bit water if dry
